Sad News; Ron Goodwin dies

Film composer Ron Goodwin, who wrote the themes for Where Eagles Dare and 633 Squadron, has died at the age of 77.
He passed away at his home in Brimpton Common, near Reading, Berkshire, his agent said.

Goodwin was best known for composing the scores to a string of 1960s war films, among them Battle of Britain and Operation Crossbow

RE: Sad News; Ron Goodwin dies

Yep,

The music was to some extent corny and obvious.

Compare the Walton themes for BoB with the final stuff and there is no contest.

But it almost defines the edges of my life.

I first saw 633 as an ATC Corporal in about 1962 (Yes, that year isn’t only in history books, some of us were there)

Saw ‘Eagles Dare’ at cinema local to my college. Gabrielle was with me as I recall. Wonder where she is now? She went off with an American called ‘Randy’ (Honest) and got engaged to him on July 4th. Corny or what?

Rushed to see BoB with the first girl I ever cohabited with.

The music is still around. Isn’t there a building society ad using the 633 theme even today?

“Strange the power that cheap music has to do something or other”

Respect Mr Goodwin.

I only heard of him on Sunday. The opening music to BoB was superb. Thats a pretty big footprint to leave behind.
