Typhoon Footage

Does anyone know of any commercial videos which include footage of Typhoons/Tempests in action during WW2?
Thanks

RE: Typhoon Footage

IWM stands for Imperial War Museum. As Ashley will tell you when she gets back to work (or takes a break from polishing) they have loads of film in their archives. There is a page on the IWM website about it too.

Just looked through “The Typhoon & Tempest Story” by Chris homas/Christopher Shores,P62 has a photo from a film of a 174 Sqn Tiffie returning from the raid on Amiens prison,P30 has a still from film taken in June 1942 showing R7694 of 56 Sqn.Both photos are marked IWM, where is the film now? Any ideas?

RE: Typhoon Footage

Hi Andy,

Have a look at this site:

http://user.tninet.se/~ytm843e/tempest.htm

There’s several clips of Tempests, although nothing on the Tiffie.

Cheers,
Neil

RE: Typhoon Footage

If only……IF ONLY!

A friend had 5 seconds on a general video, I had another 5 on another, plus a little bit of Tempest stuff off ‘Doodlebug Summer’ out this year on LWT and Meridian. I have yet to find any decent amount of footage in one program. However, www.britishpathe.com has a few bits, and there are some tempest mpegs online somewhere (I found them through google when looking for wav files I think).

The third most prolific British singled engined fighter, and the V1’s arch-enemy, and the film makers couldn’t give a toss. How about it Ashley – you reckon you could persuade your bosses to come up with a commercial release of a Typhoon video from archive footage, and a SEPERATE (diifferent planes, different roles) one of Tempests? Make both of us happy!
