Can anything be done to save the gate guardian victor that sits at Marham? Now that a Toronade F3 is being prepped for gate duties where will this leave the Victor?Hopefully something can be done to save this intact aircraft before it is too late..!

RE: On the Topic of Victors……………..
No, not much, other than they are making use of European Union money allocated for developments in the West Midlands. Timescales were not given, but I got the impression it might not be too long. It will certainly be a very impressive building when you consider it has to house Vulcan, Victor, Belfast, 707, Britannia, Argosy, Comet, Viscount, Andover, Neptune, et, etc.

RE: On the Topic of Victors……………..
During a presentation by the RAF Museum to our aviation society this week, we were told that there are plans to erect a huge exhibition hall at Cosford, big enough to put ALL their outdoor airframes under cover.

55 squadron had that K2 that diverted to Waddington, and was broken up, was that included?

RE: On the Topic of Victors……………..
By my calculations, the numbers don’t add up.If six were in service at the time of retirement and only five exist today,it must mean that two of the Mk.2’s were scrapped as the fifth survivor is Duxford’s Mk.1 which was retired about 25 years ago.

What was the headless one on the cover of Wrecks and relics? Was that the one whose nose went to hendon?

On the Topic of Victors……………..
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-12-02 AT 03:24 PM (GMT)]There used to be 6 victors in service upon disbandment… now there are only five complete examples. Was the sixth one the one that her nose is now in Hendon or another one??

RE: Victor under threat??
received another note from Marham.
they are fully aware of this being one of only 5 complete airframes left in the world and they wish for her to remain on the gate.
I wonder then with her being privatley owned will she not fall under the mod ruling of one gate on guard??

RE: Victor under threat??
The runway was too marginal for the Victor K.2 so she flew into Shawbury on the 30th of November 1993. The nose of Victor B.1A XH592 moved to Bruntingthorpe in late 1994.

RE: Cosford Victors
Regarding the Cosford Victors, hope the enclosed photos are of interest.
Victor B1 XA923 and Vulcan B1 XA900 were both take in 1984, does anybody know when these two aircraft arrived at Cosford, I assume at the time they were with the SoTT. When did the Museum at Cosford officially opening ? Both Victor and Vulcan were scraped due to heavy corrosion of the undercarriage, I’m sure with time and effort these components could have been replaced with time expired items from K2/B2 units. I was surprised to find Victor K1a XH592 was at Cosford in 1988, when did she arrive / depart the museum. The current inmate being gulf war veteran XH672 .

RE: Victor under threat??
The nose section was saved and the rest went for scrap. there was a pic of it in flypast i think and also wrecks and relics showing the rediculous spectacle of a noseless victor.
Back to the Marham beauty, I received a reply from RAF Marham and they say that the Victor will remain on display and will be sharing the duties with a Toronado GR 3?

RE: Victor under threat??
I believe it was – hasnt Cosford got a runway?
I would guess after losing the B1 at Cosford they will do everything to hang onto it.

RE: Victor under threat??
With all the discussion about Markham Victor..what is the condition of the Cosford Victor K.2 XH672. Any hope of that one being moved under cover in the near future? Most of the pictures that I have since lately seem to indicate it looks alittle faded in places!
Has it ever been repainted since it was moved to Cosford? I had read that is disassembled and transported there by road.

Is she actually opened up at any time?

RE: Victor under threat??
The only pics I have seen of her from the front show the curtains pulled closed over the main windows and ejection hatches? So the glass has now been painted over as well? Does she still have her engines?

RE: Victor under threat??
You’d think they would just shut the anti flash curtains would’nt you?!
