Major new Lancaster website!!!

Some of you may already know, but the Lincolnshire Lancaster Association now have their own website, separate to the official MOD BBMF one.

There are great photo galleries, really up to date news of the flight and it’s crews, a superb audio and pictorial tour through PA474, and much, much more.

The site is only young, and the guestbooks and discussion forum are both almost empty yet, so all you Lanc lovers get over there and give them some support!

RE: Major new Lancaster website!!!

Hi Peter,

If you read the message board on the Linc Lanc Assoc. website, they give their thoughts on the H2S blister problem in reply to a query I made there. They didn’t say what, but it seems there are technical problems to making one, and they are thus looking out for a real one-good luck to them, I say!

I hope more people gradually find and use the message board there to talk about Lanc stuff, as I’m getting bored with talking to myself!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-11-02 AT 03:15 PM (GMT)]Mike.
I thought that they were going to have a blister made? If they can make new bombaimers bubbles for her, surely they can do the same for the H2s blister?
On the topic of h2s blisters, The boys at Greenwood that restored Lancaster KB839 had a blister made up for their aircraft. They made wooden molds for it and promised to make a blister for us as well. Unfortunately the wooden molds were destroyed by heat in the molding process! and we are still on the look out for a company that can make one for us. The funny side to this is that when the techs tried to marry up the blister to the mounting ring for KB839 they had to trim the blister to fit the ring and now the blister has been skimmed down so much it doesnt resemble the true thing anymore..
A no win no win situation..?

With all of the wartime lancs that were scrapped out west.. I wonder if anyone has a blister in their yard acting as a backyard pond?

RE: Major new Lancaster website!!!

On the subject of PA474, I’d love to see a video history of her that went back as far as archive material would allow-okay so there’s unlikely to be footage of her serving with 82 Squadron in Afria, but surely there must be film of some of the laminar wing test flights? And then of her ‘one flight only’ to Waddington? And surely then after that, as she was restored and started making airshow appearances, there must be both official and amateur film of her in her early days out there?

It would be great to see some of this material-whatever there is-compiled and released, rather than just another ‘BBMF’ video, the likes of which we’ve seen plenty of over the years. (Which have ranged from appalling to superb!)

RE: Major new Lancaster website!!!

Glad you liked the site Peter-I only found it by chance myself, and am doing my best to promote it online and get it going!

Yes, that satin paint looks ace-she looked great over the sea in the sunshine for four days at sunny Eastbourne this year, whereas in years gone by she’d have been one big shiny reflection!

Can’t explain the seat-it’s been black in previous years. Still, she does have a very nicely done cockpit, for a twin controller, anyway…

Thanks for the news on your Lanc, too!

Mike

RE: Major new Lancaster website!!!

I see lots of people have viewed this topic already-thanks-I hope you’ve all supported the new site! Some Lanc-related chat in their message board would be cool.

Terrible news! Sqn Ldr Paul ‘Major’ Day will be retiring from the RAF at the end of next year! 🙁

It’s not too soon to start saying that he’s going to leave a huge hole in the BBMF once he’s gone, but somehow I think we’ll still see him flying Spits here and there!
