Piccies

I managed to get my scanner working, albeit temporarily, tonight and was digging around for a particular picture(which I have yet to find!)amongst some old slides and found a few old(ish)ones that will bring back some memories.

RE: Piccies

Didnt the Manston Javelin perish under that lunacy that permits you to have as many guards as you want, but not on the gate?

RE: Piccies

The South African DC-3 on the first photo, is not the Dutch DC-3 at the second photo. What they did was putting the fuselage of the PH-PBA and fitted it to the wings and tail unit of the South African example, while the fuselage of the South African example was fitted to the wings and tail of the PH-PBA, which is in the Aviodome in AMS.

RE: Piccies

Had another dig around and found later pictures at Baginton(Coventry) showing the Shackleton(or at least one of them, I think this is the one thats still there) and a Dak which I think is the same aircraft as the picture above (Jan Smutts) in a later guise.

Moggy,
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it the DC3 and Shack were at Coventry.I’m not sure what happened to this DC3, was it the one that ended up in that wonderful Belgian ? scheme.
Not sure which Shack that is,whether its the one thats still there or the one thats in the US and hopefully comimg back.

RE: Piccies

At one point G-BDAM was registered to Norman Lees, Euan English and Victor Gauntlet. Tony Haigh Thomas owned another camo Harvard at one time based at North Weald as did Anthony Hutton. I don’t have the info to hand at the moment but am fairly sure that in more recent times Norman and a member of the English family owned her before passing her on to Karel Bos. Either way a much missed Norman Lees operated this aircraft on the circuit based initially at North Weald and more recently Duxford

RE: Piccies

Not sure Norman Lees owned the Harvard.

I thought it was shared between Euan and Tony Haigh-Thomas?

RE: Piccies

Great pics.

I’ve backsteated in the white on. The aircraft in question are the Radial Pair owned and flown by Gary Numan and Norman Lees.

RE: Piccies

Where was the DC3 – Shackelton picture taken? Could be SA, or could be Coventry? 🙂

Loved the Harvards too, I’ve backseated in the camo one. Gary Numan and Euan English?

RE: Piccies

Certainly is Leemings gate guard, I took a whole series of it about 7-8 years ago when it had recently been repainted. Can’t say what its like now as I no longer have the access I used to have.

RE: Piccies

Is the Gloster Javelin the one that used to be outside the Spitfire museum at Manston?
