Another Quiz….

Munnst’s quiz seemed to go down quite well and was enjoyable to do so I thought I’d have a go. The questions are all film related, most with an aviation element, but there are few others thrown in to make it more difficult. Answers will be posted on friday.

Go on, have a go…

1. At the beginning of Angels one-five, P/O Baird sustains an injury, what was it? (Medical term please, as used in the film.)

2. In ‘Twelve O’clock High’, what did the executive officer buy at the beginning of the film?

3. In ‘One of our aircraft is missing’, who played the part of Jo de Vries?

4. In which aircraft was Gene Hackman’s character shot down in the Vietnam film ‘BAT-21’?

5. In ‘Saving Private Ryan’, what was the name of Miller’s platoon sergeant?

6. In ‘Midway’, what was the name of the pilot forced to ditch with a dead gunner and a wound to the hand?

7.Name the two main actors in Dawn Patrol.

8. In ‘633 Sqdn’ what was the code word for success?

9. In which film did Anton Wallbrook play a Polish pilot who was also an accomplished pianist?

10. In ‘Went the day well’ what was the name of the English village taken over by the Germans?

11. In ‘Reach for the sky’ what aircraft was Douglas Bader flying at the time of his accident?

12. In which British war film do the crew of a merchant vessel abandon ship after being torpedoed and set on fire, find her the next day, reboard her and bring her home?

13. For the film ‘Battle of Britain’ who was predominately responsible for obtaining the aircraft employed by the “Luftwaffe”?

14. What were the names given to the two Sqdns. featured in Angels One-Five?

15. Name the female lead character (not actress) in the film ‘Inn of the sixth happiness’?

16. In which film did John Wayne ‘fly’ a P-40 in the far east?

17. Which two aircraft types feature predominantly in the film ‘Strategic Air Command’?

18. In the same film, which actress played James Stewart’s wife?

19. In which other film with an aviation element did the actor and actress from the last two questions play husband and wife?

20. In which film did David Niven play a pilot found wandering on a beach before being put on trial?

Good luck everyone,

RE: Another Quiz….

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-10-02 AT 10:32 PM (GMT)]Thanks for putting us out of our misery at last! 🙂 I could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure the platoon sergeant in Private Ryan was Sgt. Horvath, rather than Horvatch.Typo??
By my reckoning, the film in which John Wayne flies P40’s in the Far East is called ‘Flying Tigers’.In Flying Leathernecks, he plays a Marine pilot flying Hellcats and Corsairs. The nickname for a US Marines pilot was a ‘Leatherneck’,hence the name of the film. I’m trusting my memory on this one-probably not a wise move!
My memory is also telling me that the two squadrons on Angels One Five were codenamed Pimpernel and Beeswax,as opposed to Hornet. Time I watched a few of these again.Looking through the list I realise just how long it’s been since I’ve seen some of them.

RE: Another Quiz….

Moggy,

I can name two but I’m only going to name one, in fact, I won’t bother, I’ll leave it to you. One was about Spitfires and the other is the answer to one of my questions.

RE: Another Quiz….

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-10-02 AT 01:56 PM (GMT)]My guess is that the half is Clarke Gable – should have been David Niven

Moggy

(The reason for the ‘edit’ is that I cheated and looked it up on Google after I’d written that it wasn’t Gable. Honest Kev.)

SUPPLEMENTARY:

Name another film in which Niven starred as a combat pilot.
