92 Squadron memorabilia –
My mug, in use everyday for “Tea Breaks Only” as inscribed on the side. Tea tastes wonderful out of this mug, and I’ll be lost when/if it ever gets broken. Squadron crest is getting a little ragged round the edges but it is still clear.

RE: Pic of the day… Lightnings.
The engines in the Lightning were indeed mounted one above the other in order to recuce the frontal aspect and therefore drag as Steve has mentioned, although the resultant slab sided fuselage could make cross-wind take-offs interesting, the engine installation was staggered, with the lower engine being mounted further forward than the upper one.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-10-02 AT 12:15Â PM (GMT)]I think it’s something to do with reducing drag – mounting the engines above each other aligns them with the profile of the cockpit, therefore when you look at a head on profile of the Lightning it’s incredibly narrow. Although strictly speaking, the engines aren’t directly aligned vertically – one is mounted in front of the other and either above or below, can’t remember which.

Nice pictures!
Got a long burning question about the Lightning:
Why are the engine’s above eachother and not beside each other?
