Here are some pics of the CASA Heinkel 111 at North Weald, which I took a couple of weeks ago at the Air Britain fly-in.
They had been in the process of dismantling the aircraft during that week. I had been up there flying on the Monday and Tuesday when they were removing the engines. By the weekend, as you can see, the centre section had also been removed, and the fuselage was mounted on a trolley.
Will try and find out more about what’s happening this weekend

It’s the Aces High one (ex Southend Air Museum) Warbirds of Great Britain haven’t owned one since 1977. To be honest I was suprised the Heinkel stayed this long as it was owned for a time by Kermit Weeks. From a personal view point I’d rather see the aircraft exported to America and restored to fly (or used to help another fly)than it continue it’s slooooooow restoration to static with Aces High. That way one day it may come back and grace the skies over Duxford. I’m all for the trade in Warbirds, we have seen some great stuff come over to the UK over the years from America, and I’m sure they must feel as upset as we do when another one of their restorations departs for the journey overseas. I would imagine on balance over the years that things are pretty even between the two countries over the years, although just recently it all seems one way.

We’ve also got to remember that the OFMC 2111 was being offered for sale here for quite a while with no takers. Thankfully she’ll be staying in the UK with the IWM, but presumably it shows there was a lack of interest in any airworthy restoration.

Is this the Aces High example or a former Warbirds of Great Britain one?

I agree with you Roger, this sort of thing really makes me puke, but I think lancman has hit it on the head, about all the money being in America, although there must be some rich bloke, or company, somewhere in Europe that wouldn’t mind putting it back in the air.
🙁
I know It’s the old saying but….when I win the Lotto……

While I agree with Roger’s sentiments, I suppose these aircraft are simply going where the money is…anyway, it wouldn’t be doing to have too much variety at, say, Flying Legends, now would it?! 😉

Sh** , S**t, *hit. I realy hate this. The one at La Ferte Alais, is going to the Usa, this one is going there. So in a few years time they have 4 flying 111’ns and ‘we’ in Europe have none. The same with the “new” 190’s. They all go over the Ocean. Well with some luck we’ll have a Connie from “them’ , as tomorrow N749NL shall cross the Atlantic!

Why should they remove it otherwise than that it is going to a new destination.I hope it isn’t going to the USA.
