RE: Pic Of The Day-04/04/02!!

I agree it would be great to see an airworthy Victor, but unfortunately I think it would be a near impossibility. The Victor was in service so long that the supply of airworthy spares was practically exhausted.Even keeping the two taxiable examples in working order is proving to be very tricky. It has been said that it is easier to get airworthy spares for a Lancaster than many of the parts for a Victor. You’d also have to consider the Voctor’s popularity. How many people have heard of a Victor and would be willing to donate to the project?
On the subject of Victors, does anyone know what plans there are for Duxford’s B.K.1?I saw a Victor included in the new superhanger plans a few months back,so does this mean her future is now assured?

Makes you wonder. I bet if God forbid, XH558 does go up for sale South Africa will be its destination.

Its pathetic we cant even get basic faults right these days, when you think of what our industry was capable of.

Wow what a great pic!
Makes one heart swell with pride at the accomplishments of british aircraft industries of old!!
The “squadron” of lightnings and buccs in South Africa will be recieving there own in-flight refueller in the shape of another Buccaneer?
The best possible chance of restoring a victor to fly would be either the one at Brunty or the Victor at Elviongton as both of these airframes are kept very much alive.
Imagin A victor and vulcan flying together in 2008!!!!

i think the Victor would have problems as they used them till it no longer possible, where as the Vulcan went out with 10 years left on the air frame the Victor kept on as long as possible.

just a guess.

Stringbag,

was the Buccaneer capable of using a buddy type refuelling system?

To anyone else out there, with the possibility of the Vulcan acheiving airworthiness, what would be the chances for a Victor? I don’t know about the technicality or legality of this idea, but would a Victor, still equipped for air to air refuelling be of any benefit to fast jet operators? I was thinking of Buccaneers and Lightnings to South Africa or any long distance transit which otherwise necessitates numerous refuelling stops and the regular problems with customs and weather difficulties.

Regards,

…and one that will sadly never be seen again 🙁

Although saying that you could swap the Victor with a Buccaneer …:)
