OK Nephews, a few piccies I think you might like. Back in the 60’s you’r uncle was an engineer cum loadmaster and general dogsbody in the Kenya Air Force. One day I was due to fly off in my Caribou on a resupply mission to Wajir in North East Kenya where the Kenya Army was fighting a guerrila war against “Shifta” bandits. On arrival at Wajir we offloaded supplies and then were told that an Army 4 tonner had overturned, and there were a dozen casualties needed evacuating to hospital in Nairobi. We flew to Isiolo and picked up the injured troops, some of whome I had to tie to the floor of the aircraft as I only had a litter kit for 3 casualties. The flight back was a bit of a nightmare. All the casualties and the African medical attendant got airsick. It was to say the least, a bit unpleasant. However we got back and the troops made it to hospital. Attached you’ll find a few pictures I took during this little episode.
1. The KAF Caribou Squadron at Eastleigh, 1965.
2. You’r uncle with his trusty 9mm sub machine gun.
3. An internal shot of the Caribou showing the freight and para seat layout.
4. A caribou take off.
5. Troops sheltering from the sun at Wajir (it was bloody hot!)
6. Casualties tied to the freight lashing points.
7. Offloading the injured at Eastleigh.

Reading between the lines, it must have been quite a day …
