Here’s a shot of Hendon’s S-Sugar on the day her tail was hoisted into the air onto the daft plinth were she’s sat ever since. Prior to the crane rasing the tail, the bomber was winched a few feet to the left (towards the B17) by steel cables on little platforms, which are what her main wheels are still on today.

Yes, I remember the projected clouds backdrop and the silly screens it played on; all very daft, it created no illusion at all, what with all the other aircraft in such close proximity. Come on Hendon, get the bird of the perch!

The idea was that when you looked from the gallery she appeared to be flying, at one point there was a movie behind her of clouds moving. Still think it looks silly though!
