Friday's question

Halibag can mail me off-forum, but for the rest of you..

The first Halifax operation also brought the first Halifax loss.

What caused it?

RE: Friday’s question

Spot on GZYL,

How tragic to have your first outing in a shiny new type and get downed by one of your own guys. I wonder if they shot back?

Yet another interesting Halifact.

The last Bomber Command casualties of the Europen war were two 100 Gp RCM Halifaxes from North Creake that collided on the last day of the war whilst trying their hand at a bit of bombing. Maybe should have stuck to what they were good at.

Bad start, bad finish huh?

RE: Friday’s question

It was shot down by a friendly fighter (Spitfire I think) on it’s first mission which was over France. This was due to the fighter pilot being unfamiliar with the new type.
