OFMC Corsair

Well it looks as though the OFMC’s Corsair is back in her new paint scheme…I’ve just seen her out on the flightline here at Duxford and she looks beautiful…US Navy Pacific colours…simply stunning…:)

I remember seeing 4 display together at Flying Legends in 1???

Awesome!

I didn’t have a camera (Good enough for air shots!) so only memories at the mo!

No doubt some one has a photo!;)

Oh, you meant UK based Corsairs…my bad. Well, if it makes you feel any better, Jim Read’s -5 model is doing fine after its Oshkosh accident, thank you, and i saw it at the Corsair gathering last year and at Oshkosh this year, both times flown by Dale Snodgrass, who flies a Corsair like Paul Bonhomme flies the Mk. 14 Spit-fast and furious and incredibly well…fun to see.

I think Lindsay Walton’s went to Brian Reynolds, but i could be wrong….saw a picture of it in a tent, it is now in plain American markings (totally wrong for a dash 7 model) with only stars and bars and the letter R on the tail…very dull. Should have kept it French Suez…looked Great then…

Um, if memory serves, you still also have Christophe Jacquard’s dash 4 Corsair in France, and I believe an F4U-5 over there also, unless I missed something….and then you have Siegfried Angerer’s in Austria, another dash 4….

The former Paul Morgan Corsair that got picked up by the Cavanaugh folks had a slight landing accident minus landing gear, and is at Nelson Ezell’s in Breckenridge pending a fix…and it seems the plane skewed sideways while sliding on its belly and slightly twisted the fuselage, so it’ll be a little while before it’s up and around.

Another one to the list of UK based Corsairs going overseas

FG 1D Paul Morgan to Cavanaugh Flight Museum USA

F4U-4 WOGB to Cavanaugh crashed at Oshkosh USA

F4U-5 WOGB to Jim Read damaged in above Accident USA

F4U-4 OFMC to Norm Lewis now Max Chapman USA

FG-1D OFMC to NZ

F4U-7 Lindsey Walton to Jack Erickson USA

Just leaves us with TFCs FG-1D and the FAA example

Hope this Trend of Warbirds going oversees is soon Reversed

Wanaka here I come

I’ve been offered the loan of some top-notch Canon digital gear to take with me to the Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow next year. I’m also counting on getting a few interesting flights, and if I’m really lucky I may get to shoot some air-air. I will be sure to share the results with you all.

Here’s hoping for Blue Sky CAVOK weather, with a hint of snow on the mountain tops.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-01-02 AT 05:06 PM (GMT)]The Donald Duck on the side was painted by Clive Denney of Vintage Fabrics when he painted the aircraft in its previous scheme, but you are correct in the sense that the previous Donald Duck was painted by a friend of Marks.

For a photo of “Donald” see

RE: OFMC Corsair

Phillip…I loved the old scheme too…especially the Donald Duck on the side, which incidentally was painted on the aircraft by a friend of Mark Hanna…I think Ray Hanna decided to make a break with the past and give the Corsair and P-40 a new paint scheme each…a fresh start so to speak…but Mark’s memory will live on forever in these aircraft 🙂

RE: OFMC Corsair

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-01-02 AT 02:39 PM (GMT)]I personally liked the old New Zealand scheme on the OFMC Corsair. It is a shame to see that scheme disappear.

In my opinion it was one of the nicest looking Corsairs around.

I do how ever look forward to seeing it in its new guise 🙂
