Tracing a pilot

Can anyone help?

My colleague has recently obtained a Vampire T11: XD602.

The aircraft was “Over Stressed” on the 29/09/1961 from RAF Cranwell.

The pilot in question was: 608135 Flt Lt L.S. Penny, age 21.

Does anyone know how this chap can be traced?

HELP PLEASE.

RE: Tracing a pilot

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will pass them on to my colleague, I’m sure he will follow them up.
Cheers for now

RE: Tracing a pilot

Sorry! Should have thought to include the RAFA Website, It’s www.rafa.org.uk/intouch. They charge a fee for non members, but I honestly think it’s your best option. PMA Innsworth won’t help, it’s against MOD policy.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-12-01 AT 00:23 AM (GMT)]Hi Keith Mac,
Does “Air Mail” have a website? Or perhaps you might know if it would be worth sending PMA Innsworth a letter asking them to forward it… Would you think that was a viable option?
This is me with one of my other heads on tonight 🙂

RE: Tracing a pilot

Hi again Halibag. It’s not Mod policy to release details of service and ex service personnel to anyone other than relatives and next of kin. However many ex RAF personnel are members of the RAF Association. They publish a magazine called “Air Mail” which has a section for tracing old friends, sqn collegues etc. Suggest you try that method, I’ve used it in the past and been successful.
