Ahh yes, Brick stories… dontcha just love ’em?
My favourite is this one – a wonderful story, even though it’s authenticity is, erm, dubious to say the least:
A detachment of Bricks had been out in Decci on an APC camp, and the aircews had taken the opportunity to fill the rotating bomb bay with all sorts of goodies before coming home – duty free booze, fags, and even a six foot teddy bear. None of it was strapped down, as the flight home was just meant to be a stooge.
Departure from Decci went without a hitch, as did the transit through French airspace, and the detachment were approaching the Channel when ATC called them up to tell them that some high ranking NATO Chiefs of Staff were on board HMS Such-and-cush, and would the Brick boys like to give them a quick demonstration of a low level attack?
Silly question, really.
The Bricks dropped down to nought feet, pushed their throttles through the gate and set an ever more rapid course for their waiting audience…
The NATO dignitaries, perched on the bridge of the ship, spotted the belching smoke trails on the horizon and watched spellbound as dots appeared and then became a flight of Buccs roaring straight in at max chat and below their eye level.
The Buccs pulled up and over the ship in gloriously noisy unison; a text-book attack. In fact, for one pilot, the mock attack must have been a bit TOO realistic… at the moment he pulled up, he also rotated his bomb bay door and unleashed the contents… 🙂

I remember, a very long time ago, an excerpt, from the old news programme “Nationwide”. They were covering the Red Flag exercises,in typical for that Programme…”The Royal Air Force is best” fashion.(Quite right too :0) One of the enduring images, was taken in the SAM control centre. To get a “kill” on the aircraft, the operator had to hold the cross hair on the speeding aircraft for 5 seconds. I can’t say how low the Buccaneer was, but he had a sandstorm in his wake! What I really remember, is the Buccanneer doing all the knots available, the comments from the USAF crew, which included “God, dammnn” and from the operator himself….”Go baby go baby go baby go” -lol needless to say, they couldn’t score a kill….

A friend of my father used to fly low level Buccaneers. He made the comment about low level flying- “you knew you were flying low, when you had to pull up, to drop the undercarriage”!
Another good picture

Infuriatingly,I can’t read the entire serial, but it appears to be XX885.If so,then this is the machine currently with OFMC at Scampton.
If they get thier way, then perhaps she will be gracing the pan again in the not too distant future 🙂
PS,Another good pic,as if I needed to say that.Oh yes,and like Rabie I’ll have one or two to go 🙂
