*NOTE FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUMENT LETS NOT DISCUSS THE US DESIGNS IN THIS THREAD.* we are talking about the next successful design after the US.
China, Russia, Japan, korea, could all conceivably
Have 5th gen fighters by 2030. Whos design is better?
Russia: The Russians have discoverd what we all knew for awhile. Making a 5th gen fighter is hard.
While I have confidence in the T-50s manuvering ability, the over all LO features of the plane look poor to me. The Russians could find themselves facing far superior 5th gen aircraft designs in The J-20,F-22-F-35-X-2.
Japan: I am really intrigued by the early ideas presented by the Japanese. Serrated pedals, For TV? Fly by optics? The Japanese might end up with a design that trumps the T-50. The biggest hurdle will be putting a SC engine in the plane.
China: both Chinese designs are superior to the T-50, but Chinese plane development has an Achilles heel. They are still dependant on imported Russian engines. How do you leap frog a rival, if you still must export their components? While the J-20 and 31 look stealthy on paper, they have a conundrum.
Korea: currently with no proto-type to speak of they arnt in the race. Id reccomend they buy F-35 off the shelf. Or a F-32 spinoff.
Europe: between 1/2 of European countries buying American Kit, and the others content with the 3 euro-canard types. I don’t see a 5th generation design coming from European manufacturers.
Discuss. Whos design will be superior?
