ShinMaywa US-2 Vs Boeing P-8I

How does ShinMaywa US-2 compare with the P-8I that Indian Navy started operating recently?

Thats what this thread is about. If anyone finds this comparison stupid, its natural and valid because that is what we are seeing with the kind of assets that is being purchased at insane cost (through Govt deals) and another one is now in the pipeline for purchase of ShinMaywa US-2 with sensors and specification/capablity that overlaps that of the P-8I.

If what IN wanted was an aircraft that could carry out surveillance, ASW and which can also help in SAR… and also which could operate in seas surrounding near & far from Indian shores, then they should have in the first place gone to the Japanese for ShinMaywa US-2, who have been trying to sell the plane to international market for quite few years now.

ShinMaywa US-2 is a very capable aircraft that can operate in seas with upto 3m wave height and with the kind of sensors and specification that IN is looking for, the need for any further P-8I (to help the under-desk business) and cutting short the current order of P-8I need to be considered.

In its earlier avatar, the PS-1 got killed when the more capable P-3 entered the scene and the Japs ditched the PS-1. But then US-2 is a different amphibian all together and could prove a good competitor to the P-8. So does anyone need OR is there any need for a P-8I kind of aircraft when there exist a capable amphibian in the form of ShinMaywa US-2 which can carry out the same task?

I would like to add few more to this post later…
