Okay so while looking at the collection of aircraft hanging from the ceiling in my office (yes its awesome, calm your applause…), I came up with what I’m hoping is a good idea. How about a new photo thread featuring NATO & Warsaw Pact (or other areas if you can find the photos) aircraft during the 1970s & 1980s. Obviously with older photographs its not a guarantee that you’ll know the date, but I thought it might be fun to see what we can come up with for aircraft and helicopters of the era. Whether its fighters, bombers, airlifters, helos, or other special mission types post them! Let’s see what the forum can collectively come up with that takes us back to an era (admittedly before I was around) that I’d argue many on the forum rather enjoyed (in terms of the sites and sounds of military aviation). For me personally, I love the wide variety of types and paint schemes found back then. Just staggering to think of the sheer volume of aircraft and helos flying around in military colors from 1970 to 1989.
I’ll start…
Luftwaffe F-4F (the first one I think)

USMC AV-8A’s
The future of the French fighter fleet at the time…

RAF C-130K (LOVE the RAF schemes from this era on any aircraft)

Back when the F-16 was just a simple day fighter
So was the F/A-18 for that matter…(to be honest I don’t know that I ever knew they painted one of the YF-17’s with the words “F/A-18 prototype”)
The Victor was so funny looking, but very warlike at the same time!
A Whale & a Cat
The old MAC paint scheme was pretty cool albeit not very warlike…also how often do you see photos of an C-141A?
Awesome! The Bone in its original guise.
