Distributed Apperture Radar Vs EOTS

I was just seeing a discussion on an F-35 thread about DAS / EOTS wjich got me thinking: would not having a distributed array be theoretically a better way or scanning the bubble around you? Considering thst there are inherent advantages of scanning for radars over IRST, I found the choice of EOTS most interesting.
