As a lifelong Phantom nut, I have to say there is something about the upcoming retirement of the F-4 from Luftwaffe service that just gets to me. Many nations have retired their Phantoms during my lifetime, but this one really makes me a bit sad. With that being said, what better way to celebrate the F-4’s long service in Germany than with a thread chocked full of German Phantom pics? They can be from any era or any variant (F-4F, RF-4E, F-4F ICE). I just would love to see what the forum can come up with. We have only a matter of days as I type this before the Luftwaffe’s F-4’s are gone from European skies forever. When the retirement ceremony occurs, I’m sure lots of great pics will come up and those will be great to see as well!
It’s a sad time, but a happy one as the life of an aviation legend can be celebrated. Here are some pics I rather like posted below…
The more I look at it, the more I love the ‘Norm 72’ scheme. It’s just got such a retro, vintage NATO look to it.

The 20th FS ‘Silver Lobos’ when they were active at Holloman AFB. Another great scheme.

An F-4F reminding us all that despite her age, she still has some teeth…

RF-4E….long gone from Luftwaffe service but a few still solider on with Greece I believe.
