Catalan Air Force 2015/Eurofighter v F-22 & Rafale

So the Spanish province of Catalonia is pursuing its options for independence including a

This might mean a new airforce in Europe in the next few years. Catalonia has a population of 7 million people which is larger than Norway or Denmark. Per capita income is comparable to Britain.

It will be interesting if independence is achieved whether any Spanish air assets are transferred to Catalonia. Spain does not maintain any permanent air installations in Catalonia.

On a more darker note, some Spanish generals have apparently warned of having to defend Spanish territorial integrity.

This could result in civil war especially as Spain is near bankrupt and is prone to instability.

It is possible that Europe/NATO would get involved in stopping any conflict.

This could result in a no-fly zone being imposed.

It could well be the first aerial combat involving Eurofighters, F-22s and Rafales is actually Spanish Eurofighters (and F/A-18) v French Rafales and/or American F-22s. 😮

Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this.

Also by 2020 we could also be talking about a new Scottish Air Force.
