Looking at the aircraft types and ages in South America this part of world is going to be big market between 2015 and 2035. With aircraft from all around the world in with a shout . When we look at Argentina if they were to buy 40 JF-17’s it would be a big step up capability where as the likes of Brazil are looking at top end 4.5 and 5th generation jets to be in place by 2035 when the last of F-5s and AMX retires . The list below shows there are some 400+ fighters in South America and most will need replacing in the 2030’s
Argentina 15 Mirage 3/5 – 34 A-4 Total 49
Brazil 12 Mirage 2000 – 60 AMX – 57 F-5E/F – 12 A-4 Total 141
Chilean 46 F-16 – 13 F5 E/F Total 59
Peru 19 Mig 29 – 12 Mirage 2000 – 18 SU-25 Total 49
Ecuador 13 Kfir – 12 Cheetah – 17 Mirage 1/3 Total 43
Colombia 20 Kfir Total 20
Venezuela 24 SU-30 – 9 F-16 -11 F-5 Total 44
Total 400 +
How will we see this market carved up and who will buy what ?
