Mitsubishi F-3 project to launch in 2016, enter production in 2027

It is an F-22 class jet powered by two 33,000 lbs engines, good for 66,000 lbs. Avionics wise it would be a 6th generation jet. The formal development starts in 2016, with production beginning in 2027.

Japan’s objective is to join the US F-22 replacement program, but the F-3 will come as a stand-alone jet should that not materialize.
