As you know, the MiG-29 is equipped with an anti-FOD system on the intakes, whereby the main intakes are blanked off by solid ‘doors’, the air then being taken in via slatted louvres on the upper LERX.
As I thought I understood it, the doors were activated by a weight-on-nosewheel switch which automatically activated the main doors on landing.
The upper LERX louvres are spring-loaded and open on demand from the engine.
A recent photo I took shows the main intakes blanked off – but the nosewheel is not quite touching the ground……

Does anyone know exactly how it works ???
Is it pilot activated – or automatic??
And, if automatic, how ???
Thanks in anticipation…
