Something I’ve always been curious to know is why the RAF’s Tornado IDS was given the GR (Ground attack Reconnaissance) prefix and not the S (Strike) designation that had been carried by the Buccaneers? The Tornado had a similar role to the Buc, that was different from the CAS tasking that GR would imply so why the change?
