This probably didn’t warrant it’s own topic and the mods may well delete it but I have to say my peace on the matter…
The Swiss fighter competition…get over it!
I’m am simply appalled at all of the complaining going on regarding the Gripen winning this particular contest.
So what if the Rafale didn’t win? So what if the Typhoon didn’t win?
I can understand people wanting a particular airplane to win because of its (or their) nationality but really?? Does it affect you that much?? For most people here the answer is no.
In this case it looks like the winner was chosen because it was able to fill some of the requirement at a much more reasonable cost than the competitor. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past decade or so, it is no secret that a large number of the worlds nations are having financial difficulties. It wont be the first time something was bought because it was priced better. Also, if you ask me both the Typhoon and Rafale are WAY over-priced. The F-35 is in the same boat before someone claims I’m favoring anything American.
Additionally…this is Switzerland. I can assure you that any requirement they may have is more than fulfilled by the Gripen.
Finally…it’s the Gripen! It’s not a bad airplane at all. I’ve heard very few bad things about it until this recent competition and in my personal opinion a lot of that is due to the fact that it was chosen over the Rafale and/or Typhoon. People are pissed because their favorite Eurocanard (whichever one they happen to like) didn’t win.
Just because it is a smaller jet doesn’t mean it’s unworthy of consideration in many of these competitions. It’s still a capable airframe and quite good at what it is made to do.
I understand that the larger two jets offer better capability in some areas but some of the stuff I’m hearing people say about the Gripen (no doubt due to their anger) is just stupid.
Get over it people…you’re allotted an opinion but don’t act like a child. I’ve been guilty if it in the past but its really ridiculous this time around…
I’m glad to see the Gripen get another order, and I hope it continues to get sales. It’s a solid yet underrated jet that gets little attention here because it doesn’t fall into one two categories: 1. Some Russian aircraft that’s not in service yet. 2. The Rafale or Typhoon.
