Back to the top please as it’s nearly here.
And a bit of an update:
We have a former WW2 pilot from the USA coming along to sign copies of his autobilography – Clayton Kelly Cross a one time ‘ace’ and now is in his mid 80’s is coming to the UK for just a few days! As he’s not in the best of health and only coming all this way to see us you can’t but admire the man.
We are hoping to see Henry Farwell – a one time rear gunner on Marauders at Boxted. Henry stayed here after the War marrying an English girl. His flack helmet ended up in Wright Patterson museum in Ohio. The museum thought that whoever owned the helmet must surely have perished since the damage to it was so severe. Henry has comes along to most of our Fly Ins and is featured in our CD and Video of the airfield.
We have now found several (about 6) former RAF personnel from the base which is going to be interesting when they come along.
Amongst the other WW2 veterans we have Montgomerys former tank driver coming. A fair number of Korean war veterans also are turning out.
We are a small event and whilst the flying programme adheres to the CAA guidelines it is possible to get fairly close to the parked up aircraft.
The mark V Spitfire will be staying on the ground after its display.
