There was a time when faster was better. Back in the 70s there were several attempts at Mach 3 interceptors and bombers. Some were cancelled, while others like the MiG-25 and MiG-31 are fast approaching retirement. Fighters have been stuck at Mach 2 for some time. The F-22 is no faster than the F-15. So is this the end of the pursuit for speed until maybe space planes come along?
