ROCAF – News & Discussion – Season 1

(Obviously, I begin this thread to archive and assimilate Taiwan-based military aviation news that aren’t accidents, attritions, or crashes; and aren’t covered by the other threads that are aircraft-specific (F-5, F-16, IDF, Mirage 2000-5, &c).)

In Tao Yuan County, just outside Tao Yuan IAP, the Chung Cheng Aviation Museum closed in 2014 March.
A year later, its aircraft moved to nearby Tao Yuan AB.

By 2019 January, the new aviation museum is unbuilt, and even unplanned.
The aircraft, stored outdoor, are rotting away.

Before 12 August 2018:
F-86.
6134.
Retired 5th Group, ROCAF.

Arrived at 8-23 (August 23) Artillery Battle Memorial Park, at Bei An Road, Zhong Shan District, Taipei City; for 60th anniversary of 8-23 Artillery Battle ceremony on 18 August.
Previously displayed at CYC (China Youth Corps) Cheng Ching Lake Youth Activity Center, at #140, Wen Qian Road, Niao Song District, Kao Hsiung City.

Joined ROCAF in 1954, and retired in 1977.

Paint scheme was inaccurate.
Tail fin didn’t have 5th Group emblems, stripes, and S/Ns.
ROCAF roundels were modern version, not 1950s version.

On 2016/09/03, Taipei City government renamed Bei An Park as 8-23 Artillery Battle Memorial Park.
