Gripen for Switzerland

Since this no longer belongs into the Rafale thread, I opened a new thread.

Here is the official government statement, in German (French and Italian also available):
Bundesrat beschliesst Beschaffung von 22 Gripen

Main points:
– 22 jets
– all 3 jets on offer met the requirements
– financial considerations essential
– Gripen, cheapest to buy and operate, thus ideal choice
– Gripen isn’t considered cutting edge in European fighter technology (but still good enough), federal counsil was looking for compromise between capability and cost
– 100% offets
– defence budget increases to CHF 5 billions from 2014 on, a 600 million increase

The 600 millions annually seem to be enough to pay for the Gripens, interesting.

Seems it is indeed the Gripen NG Saab offered, including airframe mods and the F414G engine.
