An Old Solution to a New Problem – Warbirds for Modern COIN

Though I know it will not happen, I’d like to see what people’s thoughts are concerning the use of WWII warbird designs for moderday COIN aircraft. Basic designs are done, airframes have been battle tested, performance is better than either Texans or Super Tucano’s, weapons payloads are similar, etc. Updates such as modern data links, targeting pods, and an ejection seat are all that would be missing. Seems like some new build P-51’s, F4U’s, or P-38’s would be a nice choice.
