According to some information released, the upgraded F/A-18E Super Hornet will load three LO weapon pod, each one contains four AIM-120C5/7, meanwhile, still with 8 hardpoints remained at least for A2A missiles.
I have no idea would this kind of F/A-18 be changed model as H or not, but with 480 USgal CFT and thrust up 20% approximately, this will be a great improved version for Super Hornet E.
This reminds me of sth called B-1R which might be refitted from B-1B or new design, could carry 20 to 24 A2A missile for supporting F-22 behind air-dogfight field. The missile out of B-1R will be guided via frontial F-22’s radar when F-22 are facing outnumbered foes but lacking missile because of stealth requirement due to missile loading internally.
The capability of the SHE for carrier-based is doubtless, my worry here is, US navy ought to be pioneer supported by USAF especially when no air-base in allies surround enemy.
