MRA4 dying a slow death?

News about Nimrod training suspension that has been ongoing for months now:

Just at a time when the aircraft is under threat anyway..

Is there actually a material problem or are the MOD trying to tar the new Nimrod with the Nimrod MR2 etc safety brush with a view to cancellation?

And if it does go, what will the MOD do to replace it?

This could perhaps go in the Defence Review thread but i thought it merited a little stand alone consideration.
