So I started this on the Historic forum and interest died out almost before it began. I kinda expected that, so despite the fact that the F-100 isn’t really “modern” these days, I figured I might have better luck here because jets seem to get a bit more attention here. Anyways here it goes…
The exploits of the F-100 in the skies over Southeast Asia are well known during the late 1960’s, but I thought it would be fun to start a discussion about what the F-100 was up to after the Vietnam War. From what I understand, the Turks operated them over Cyprus in 1974, and indeed Denmark and Turkey both operated them into the 1980’s with France and the United States operating them until around 1978-1979 I believe (Not sure when Taiwan retired theirs). In any case, I’m assuming in all cases their primary role was air-to-ground so what munitions were carried on the F-100 later in its service life? Same stuff as had been used in Vietnam? What about the AIM-9 Sidewinder? Did any F-100’s get more advanced versions of the AIM-9 later in life?
