The Israeli censors finally approved the release of details surrounding a 1982 reconnaisance operation over Iraq, involving two Israeli RF-4E aircraft.

According to the report, the operation took place in January 1982 – several months after the raid on Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor. The Israeli aircraft were reportedly pursued by an Iraqi MiG-21, which ran out of fuel and crashed attempting to intercept the F-4’s.
Given the ongoing sabre-rattling over Iran, the timing of this release has to make me wonder if this isn’t a thinly veiled warning regarding the reach of the IDFAF.
