War budget allows U.S. to retire old C-5 planes
The little-noticed provision of the law repeals a 2004 ban on retirement of the huge military transport planes, something the Air Force has been seeking for years given the high cost of maintaining the planes and their poor readiness levels.
a truly stupendous gift to boeing
all air-mobility studies have included the C-5A’s capacity in their calculations
remove 50 C-5s from the balance and suddenly you need another 80 or whatever C-17s
no this isn’t ‘guaranteed’ at the moment . . . but you can take it to the bank
the USAF is going to retire all C-5As and then whine it doesn’t have enough airlift
