IF the funding for the F136 (F-35 alternate engine) gets pulled, is there any chance GE/RR continue to fund development privately?
Since the engine is so far along and it is theoretically better than the F135 and the F-35 market is huge (3000+ estimated), you would think they would give it serious consideration.
And of course, once a high-quality engine is out there, it tends to get used in more than one plane and developed into new products (see F404)
Of course even if they would self-fund it, they would in no way admit it now. They would deny deny deny in hopes congress restores funding first.
