TuAF’s F-4E 172. Sahin Squadron temporarily ceased operations on April 27, 2009. Currently, TuAF operates 51 F-4E/2020 Terminators(upgraded to serve until 2020 if necessary), 18-20 RF-4Es and 30-40 F-4Es. TuAF’s plan is to replace all F-4E/2020 and F-4E squadrons with F-35s starting from 2012 or 2013.
A farewell ceremony was given to a specially painted F-4E from 172. squadron. Indeed, April 27, 2009 was a sad day for 172. squadron but the future is bright at least. Thank you for your service to our country. We hope to see you flying again with F-35s in our skies.
