Report: JCAs cut from Army budget
http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2009/04/airforce_joint_cargo_army_042809/
The Air Force will retain its 38 planes under the revised plan, but the Army, which wanted 40 C-27s to replace its aging C-23 Sherpas, will receive none.
A purely moronic decision
The army DESPERATELY wants the JCA
The air force was a johnny-come-lately who devised a requirement and forced a joint program solely to do everything in their power to foul up army’s attempt to get fixed-wing transport.
They still haven’t been able to show that they have a need for them and they really have no desire for them.
They’ve had to resort to inventing roles for this plane that they do not in any way want, such as the AC-27J mini-gunship
The army on the other hand knows exactly why it needs the JCA and how it plans to use it.
Thus if you wanted to shrink the program, it would make far more sense to elminate the airforce side since they never wanted it and have no use for it.
