Are things really all that bad?

Reading on this forum and others I won’t mention 😮 I see a lot of complaints about how poorly many items of new kit perform, a recent example being the F22 and F35. The F22 will never have a two seat variant so won’t replace either F15 or the F117 and the F35 won’t have the range or carry the payload to replace the F15. Europe has the same problem with the various Tornado variants.
The F35 is not due to enter service with the Royal Navy until 2010/11 leaving the FAA in limbo after the SEA Harrier fleet was retired in 2006, RAF Harrier GR9s will be operating off carriers until the F35 enters service.
There is a two year delay in the first test flight of the A400 engine and along with other delays with the airframe the RAF is facing a transport shortfall.
Are things really all that bad or are things being blown out of proportion?
