Future of US Navy aviation?

Disclaimer: I know theres a “naval aviation” board, but forum seems more geared to naval topics itself. AND I do not intend to start another FA-18E vs F-14 topic. The Tomcat is dead, get over it. I would rather you NOT mention the F-14 whatsoever. 😮

Right now, the projected line-up of USN combat jets will consist of FA-18E/Fs and F-35s. The FA-18E replacing the F-14 and the F-35 replacing the F-18Cs.

As far as I know, the FA-18E is intended as a stop-gap until 2020 or something. What do they intend to replace it with? Or will they have an all-JSF aircraft line-up like some have said?

The USN sees the FA-18E/F capable enough to deal with any threats of the now, whatever that may be. But with newer jets like the Su-35BM and PAK FA on the horizon (which could both be exported), does the USN plan to move forward, or do they trust their F-35s to do the trick? Would that work in the long run??

And what’s this I hear about the USN deciding to purchase more F-18Es than originally intended?
