New Tornado Variant -the E4

With increasing numbers of Tornado F3s coming into storage(exacerbated by the upcoming demise of XXV Squadron this week), the RAF have been experimenting with new uses for their ageing fighters. One such experiment has been publicly announced today on the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force;the Tornado E Mk.5. A spokesman for the Loyal Welsh Air Force said that his country would be interested in buying some examples of this variant which would be used to detect vans carrying illegal leek exports out of the country to NW England every Bank Holiday weekend. The aircraft would be based at LWAF Llanwell.
As can be seen from the photograph the Radar scanner also doubles as a sunshade for the aircraft’s crew, a useful feature for overseas operations.
