as most of you know, the current combat scout/escort/recce helo for the U.S. Army is the OH-58D Kiowa Scout Warrior which is a Bell 406 . The current plans to replace the OH-58D are with a new improved version of the Bell 406, designated the Bell 417 which is much like the new Bell 407 (as seen here)
Compared to nations like Australia, Germany, Britain, Russia and Japan who use combat scout helos like the Tiger, A129, Super Lynx 300 etc, I ask, is the United States actually lacking in this category? Is a some-what updated, more powerful Kiowa/Bell 400 series the answer? Or is this all a scout/recce helo should be?
