One to make you think a bit – perhaps

Dear All,
Am I correct in thinking that the vast majority of Sigint and Elint is gathered by satellite these days? However low power signals can not penetrate the ionosphere, likewise signals of certain frequencies are blanked by the ionosphere. There is therefore a requirement for Sigint and Elint gathering beyond line of sight over denied territory. In a conflict the E-8, E-3, E-6 etc will do that once control of the air has been achieved.
Is it conceivable that before they can be safely deployed a covert stealth type reconnaissance aircraft would be required to provide up to date real time intel to strike assets such as F-117 and B-2. This role may well now be covered by UAVs however was this the role fulfilled by the TR-3/RF-23 Manta ?
