Production rates

During the 70’s and 80’s the average US productions per year of fighter aircraft was between 200 and 300 exemples.
Now it is fallen to 20 f 22 for usaf and 30 F18 E-F per year…..
What do you think about it concerning the replacement of F 15 and F16-F18 with F 35?

Military electronic kit is not produced but sculpted. Lead time is years, not months. We fight with (the readily serviceable proportion of) what we have, then fold our tents and go home when stock is expended. Back to the future. Long campaigns were a novelty of a brief Western era of plentiful labour, to make and use munitions, and adaptable industry, to hew and forge them in blacksmiths and other civil sites. See UK auto industry turned in 1938 to churn out aeroplanes by 1940. Ask (?Honeywell) to ramp up AMRAAM’s PowerPC chip inside half a decade, and be mocked.
