why no follow up after Vulcan?

I have often wondered why there was nothing constructed for long range strike after the Vulcan. Even after the Falklands, where a long range aircraft was needed, there was nothing except the shorter ranged Tornado.
Couldn’t a dozen Vulcans been retained and placed into storage and taken out if needed? One or two could be used for crew training.
