US buying abroad?

I know the US is considered one of the major military hardware manufacturers in the world but there must surely have been times when the US government has bought overseas aircraft.
I’m not talking about a Spanish (for example) company producing an aircraft specifically to meet a US requirement but them buying an aircraft that is already in production.
