Any knowledgeable engine folk care to compare the latest F110 to the latest AL-31? What’s the potential of each engine or are they at the end of their development cycles?
It looks as though the AL-31 is somewhat lighter but the F110 develops more thrust, both dry and under afterburner. Both appear to ave very similar dimensions. Not sure where the extra weight of the F110 comes from then.
Already fought and failed to understand the TBO comparison battle.
The gearboxes also look like they’re on opposite sides of the engine.
Both appear to be very fine engines and I would really enjoy a comparison of strengths and weaknesses. I saw the rumor that Russia had offered to sell the AL-31 to Iran in an effort to get all those rotting F-14’s flying….how likely is that???
