Mirage 5 (?) with retractable canards..

Was looking through a bookstore today and came across a book with a rather different looking Mirage 5 (At least i think it was a 5)…..

The picture was a head-on shot and showed the aircraft was fitted with either retractable or variable-geometary nose canards…. very similier to those fitted to the TU-144…. though on a small scale of course….

These canards also featured small flaps……

The Mirage had a small nose cone…. and what appeared to be a forward looking camera housing or possibly a laser range-finder window in a canoe fairing just behind the radome….

The picture had no caption at all!….. and no mention in the text surrounding it…..

There were no strakes on the air-intakes so it wasnt a Mirage NG……

Any ideas anyone ?????
