AW&ST anounces Boeing Plan for 777/737 tanker combo for the USAF

So what do you think of this probability? From what I understand the B767 is out of the US tanker game. USAF is concerned that it is obsolete, since almost no civilian orders are showing up in recent years. In smallers numbers the KC777 would take the “heavy” side of the job hauling whole squadrons across the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans. The KC-737 would be purchased in much larger numbers and used as a “Theater Tanker”. I believe a natural candidate for the KC-737 is the US Navy/Marines as well as every current user of KC-137s and KC-135s…

What do you think about this? Could this offer beat out the superior KC-30 (A-330 tanker) offered by EADS and Northrop?
